Member Of The Month – Ash Lehane


Congratulations Ash on being our male member of the month.

Ash is part of the M Squared intern team and training to become a coach. Im excited for his future as he will be mega at it. Ash is always first to offer to help and get involved when needed and is generally part of the M Squared furniture on a day to day basis. We wouldn’t have it any other way. 😜

The progress with Ash since joining us is incredible. Not only in ability but in confidence and knowledge too. Ash works his weaknesses, does his rehab and accessory work and is happy to train with anyone and pretty much do any workout you create! Always up for a laugh and great at making other people smile too.

An absolute pleasure to have around and the gym just wouldn’t be the same without him. Ash has deserved this recognition for a long time now and glad we can finally make him our Member of the month.

So over to Ash to tell us about his CrossFit journey so far. 😊

M – How long have you been doing CrossFit?

A – Ive been playing about at CrossFit for about 3 years now. I’ve not made it to the games yet though so maybe it’s time to retire 🤷🏼‍♂ We’ll see how this open goes!! 😜

M – What class time do you usually attend and why does that work for you?

A – I don’t really have a certain class, everyone that knows me knows that I work nights and don’t really sleep much so I just train whenever!! I like to keep the classes varied so that I can meet new people and not get stuck in a routine if that makes sense?

M – What is your why? Why do you put yourself through it each day? Do you have goals you want to achieve?

A – It started out just a way to get myself ready for a tough mudder. When I started to see the results though it became a sort of addiction. As long as I get a PB or see some sort of progress every couple of weeks, it keeps me interested. I’ve made some friends for life through CrossFit too and I think they’d be upset if I stopped 🤣. In all seriousness though, it keeps me sane and I enjoy it, that’s the main thing. When the enjoyment stops, that’s when I’ll stop. I also don’t want to be one of them dad’s or grandads that can’t play with their kids when they get old. I want to be able to keep myself in decent shape for as long as possible!!

M – What advice would you give anyone wanting to start CrossFit but is either unsure or nervous? We get people all the time saying they need to get fit first or they could never do what we do? Any advice for those people?

A – I’d send them over to Paul Sea. I reckon once he’s had 10 minutes with them, they’d be sold. 🤣 Or I could tell them about the inspirational people I’ve met at the box. I could go on for ages about the people at the box that inspire me but I won’t name names, they might not want the attention.

M – What is your biggest achievement so far in CrossFit and what are you most proud of?

A – For me, if I can put a smile on someone’s face at the box, that’s an achievement. Whether it be advice, a compliment or even just a conversation. We all get so busy with our own lives and our own goals, sometimes we don’t know how someone is generally feeling or how someone’s day has been. So if I can be a positive part of someone’s day, that’ll do for me. Performance wise it was hitting a 100kg full snatch not so long ago, I’ve been chasing that for a while!! I also love the fact that I can now eat whatever I like and not gain any weight. I’d probably say that having you beg me to intern and help out is an achievement, you’re a tough one to please 🤣🤣.

M – Ha ha thats very true I am hard to please so you must be doing something right! 🤣 Thanks so much Ash and congratulations again. Look forward to your MOTM Wod!
