Member Of The Month – August 2026

Our August MOTM goes to the shy wallflower Mel Hunter!

Mel is a solid part of Team M Squared. She is a huge part of Psych Weightlifting, has been working really hard on her lifting with some big goals, she is also working a lot on her gymnastics too, and keeps on top of her accessories to help with these things. She might have mentioned it but just in case you hadn’t heard, she’s also British champion rower too… 😉 She not only works hard in the gym, but also gets involved in all the “extra-curricular” activities, often helping to organise the social side of things and is super friendly with everyone, often heard cheering people on from across the room and having a giggle. Have a read to find out more about Mel and her CrossFit / weightlifting journey so far…

M – How long have you been doing CrossFit?

MH – 6 years.

M– What class time do you usually attend and why does that work for you?

MH – Any time between 4.30 and 6.30, mostly because I hate training early in the morning but mostly because I can look forward to it all day.

M– What is your why? Why do you put yourself through it each day? Do you have goals you want to achieve?

MH – My ‘why’ is health – I was super unhealthy before I found Crossfit. Didn’t care for myself, heavily smoked and drank, had a lot of physical pain. Crossfit changed everything for me! And community – I LOVE seeing my friends most evenings and being silly. I’ve been very driven by Crossfit in the past but mostly I try to just enjoy it now, have some fun and work towards my goals. I refuse to quit until I have: 75 snatch, 100 C&J, at least ONE BLOODY MUSCLE UP!!!! 😡

M– What advice would you give anyone wanting to start CrossFit but is either unsure or nervous? We get people all the time saying they need to get fit first or they could never do what we do? Any advice for those people?

MH – The same thing I tell anyone who ever asks – you can scale to ANY level.

M What is your biggest achievement so far in CrossFit and what are you most proud of?

MH – Getting 100kg clean – never imagined I would hit this kind of number!

And winning a 500m sprint row (of course) at the British rowing indoor championship. I’m still a British champ for another 3 months 🥹

M – Short and sweet answers! Great work Mel, we love having you part of the team.
