Member of The Month – Emma Higson (Higgo)


Massive congratulations to one of my favourite people in the whole wide world. It wasn’t just my choice either, it was as always, unanimous from the coaching team.

Higgo has always been a social CrossFitter and in it for the banter (The female Ben Landels ha) but she has always been a massive part of the team. Higgo started with me from day one and has been here ever since. From painting the gym (she painted the metal post near the rig if you want to admire her work) from being there for me as a supportive friend whenever I needed her. Higgo is always smiling, happy and makes everyone feel at ease.

It’s even more impressive to see her back at the gym after having little Reggie almost 6 months ago. She is an incredible mum and the fact she gets in when she can and trains on her own while the little lad sleeps is so inspiring. She is a perfect role model to all new mums and just humans in general.

Anyway I could talk about this one for ages but ill let her tell you her story below.

M – Congratulations on being member of the month. This is one of my proudest ones yet. ☺️ As mentioned here are some questions so you can tell your story.

H– Bloody Nora this is a surprise! A lovely welcomed one but who would have thought it. Cardio queen me 😳 getting member of the month!

M – Ha Ha so how long have you been doing CrossFit?

H – God I feel old counting back! I think around 4yrs now. All I can say is that’s what happens when you work in an office with Em, Some people will say she rubs off on you, others would say motivate (cough force 😂) First it was the good old days doing bootcamp at Train in my Carlsberg t-shirt, then OTB in North Cest car park being schooled at running by….everyone, then QDOS and now M Squared.

M –  What class time do you usually attend and why does that work for you?

H – Currently I’m doing a lot of the classes on my own in open gym with my main mate Reggie 👶. Its tough I’m not gonna lie but both aunties Em and Gage have been a massive support! Oh and Mum and baby with Rach, which is brill!

– What is your why? Why do you put yourself through it each day? Do you have goals you want to achieve?

H – My why 🤔 hmmm well I’d say I have a few at the mo. Currently it is to sort out this mum bod, I mean I’m very proud of what my body has been through and what we have created but it sure is a shock to the system to see the difference in your body….saying that the dominos won’t have helped add to that 😊 oh and I’m marrying a little bit of a legend in 2020 so that’s my current motivation, I’m going to carry him over the threshold 😂

M – What advice would you give anyone wanting to start CrossFit but is either unsure or nervous? We get people all the time saying they need to get fit first or they could never do what we do? Any advice for those people?

H – Just do it! It can be for any level, or god if you feel shite one day you can just sandbag it, or take 40mins longer than everybody else…right Gage? ☺️ (she is so looking forward to the feMale partner comp with me)

M –  What is your biggest achievement so far in CrossFit and what are you most proud of?

H – In all honesty I don’t think my biggest achievement has come yet. Saying that getting back into it after Reggie was a massive achievement. You feel like you’re starting from scratch, and then you go and get member of the month 😊

I deffo have a love hate relationship with CrossFit but it is made slightly easier when some of your best mates run the joint! Some will say I paid them for this honour 😂, I know I know I’m as shocked as you are!

Also id just add that you competing at Rainhill was a massive achievement. Especially as you hate fitness 😂
