”Well what an awesome weekend that was! It couldn't have gone any better if we tried! 😀
Friday January the 12th, the team stay behind for the set up of what was going to be an epic weekend of CrossFit, comradaree, team work and a community vibe like no other. M Squared’s first Same Sex Partner CrossFit Competition: feMale!
The competition floor is set and ready for the ladies to arrive in the morning.
So much organising, planning, team meetings, sleepless nights, not giving Memphis enough attention while i prepare for every situation when i get home. will it pay off? You can plan and plan but you can never plan what people are going to do. ??♀️
here goes! ?
It’s the weekend and competition time. The doors open and the athletes, vendors, spectators and judges arrive. Smiling, happy and slightly nervous faces fill the gym. The judges who are all volunteers from M Squared are briefed, given T shirts and clip boards and we are ready to go. They all look super important and official. ?
Athlete briefing starts and I cant quite believe how many faces are looking back at me while I talk them through the mornings activities with my mega demo team. How have they all fit inside the gym? There is a proper buzz as heat 1 get ready to take to the floor.
DJ J Sav and DJ Soph pump up the tunes from the DJ Booth…3…2…1…LETS GO!
The atmosphere throughout the WODs is electric.?
The supporters are cheering and clapping. The photographer is taking sneaky shots and videoing the whole thing. The MC is on the mike, The judges are encouraging and no repping. The head judge is doing her thing with her stop watch and beady eye, scores are being submitted and verified and big T has made his way onto the dance floor to keep an eye on everything in the only way a proud dad knows how! ?
WOD 2 Is a strength complex and it was awesome to watch these ladies and lads throw up some weight. One incredible lady Robyn Herbert from CrossFit OL1 got 100kg in the lifting complex and Joe Cowen from CrossFit Napalm got an incredible 150kg! ??
We all broke for lunch ahead of schedule and with everything going to plan. Tea and coffee was being served up in the kitchen on day 1 by the lovely Leah and Graeme as unfortunately Extreme Bean Coffee could only make day 2.
My Mums Square Meals were flying out the fridge and people raving about how good they were (trying to get her to bring back Meal Prep ?). Christian and Sonjia were tallying up the scores on the live leaderboard for people to see. Kikka was kitting people out in her awesome range from LVL UP Apparel who were there all weekend. People were chatting and making friends, My dad was going round doing what he does best and flirting with all the ladies ….sorry Mrs Calvert. ?
Everyone was playing with the dogs that were there and I think its fair to say everyone was smitten with Brian the 12 week old British bulldog who is the new CrossFit OL1 gym dog. ?❤️ On Schedule we briefed the last WOD that everyone would compete in. Synchro Burping Fran!
There were mixed feeling about this WOD but I knew it was going to be good to watch and to do. It had an 8 min timecap and as the days went on we saw people going sub 5mins. It was brilliant to watch, hard to judge but I think it was a massive success. The star fished bodies at the end says it all.
And now the Final! ?
The Top 5 teams went through to the competition final. WOW is all I can say. The atmosphere was out of this world. You were just hit with a wall of noise as everyone got behind the teams! You go, I go. 3 rounds, heavy KB swings, HSPU (Lunges for scaled) then max cal Assault bike.
The scores were re-set so it was winner takes all. The effort and grit these teams put in to take that top competition spot was phenomenal. ??
I sat on the sidelines just taking it all in and im not gonna lie, it made me quite emotional. It was like time slowed down (i’m sure it did for those who had 4 mins left on the bike or rower ?) I looked around and saw everyone screaming and cheering, the athletes giving it some, everywhere I turned I was surrounded by family, friends, my awesome members and a community I I’ve never found anywhere else. I couldn’t have been more proud! ?
It’s Podium time!
