Member Of The Month – October 2017

Another easy decision for Member Of The Month – October 2017

Congratulations Holly Currie!

Holly is one of the nicest people we have had the pleasure of meeting. Since doing her 1-1 foundations class we knew we were going to love her. Such a happy,  positive, friendly lady with an awesome Irish accent to match.

Holly has come on leaps and bounds in such a short period of time. Her body shape has changed and as you can read below, more importantly, her focus and attitude to training.

Holly is a true representation of the women we want to empower and give that confidence and self-belief too….. And also show its ok to be strong and not skinny….in fact, its the best way to me in my opinion.

Read all about Holly’s experience so far at M Squared.

M – Congratulations Holly – MOTM October 2017. Very well deserved. so How long have you been doing CrossFit?

H – About 3 months, I started in mid-July so am relatively new but as I go 4-5 times a week, by October, I already feel like part of the furniture!!

M –  You tend to be a 7pm class goes. What makes you come to class from work instead of going straight home and chilling on the sofa?

H – I’m not going to lie, it can be hard to motivate yourself to do anything after a hard day’s work but it’s just become part of my routine.  The hardest part of getting to the gym but once I step through the door I’m glad I came.  From watching the 6pm class smash the WOD and chatting to the 7pm crew about what we are about to put ourselves through, it becomes more of a chat with your mates about what fun you’re going to have than a chore!  Since moving from Northern Ireland I haven’t had a chance to make many friends outside of work but that has quickly changed since joining M Squared!

I take a Thursday night and Sunday off…I never know what to do with myself haha!

M – On that note what is your why?  Why do you put yourself through it each day? Do you have goals you want to achieve?

H – Initially, like every woman alive, I wanted to lose a bit of weight and look good for going away for my birthday in November but now my goals change from week to week.  I am no longer worried about losing weight but now I look at getting stronger so I can perform better!  STRONG IS THE NEW SEXY!  The constant support, encouragement, community feel and awesome coaches make the 1 hr slot fly by in no time! My goals moving forward are to get my first strict pull up (nearly there) and handstand pushup, I know with Em and the guys spurring me on, it won’t be long!  Then I’m sure I’ll have another movement or goal to go at!

M – What advice would you give anyone wanting to start CrossFit but is either unsure or nervous?  We get people all the time saying they need to get fit first or they could never do what we do?  Any advice for those people?

H – DO IT!!!!  It really is the best decision I’ve made in a long time.  You don’t need to already be fit or lift heavy

weights; everyone starts from the bottom and works their way up, at their speed with the support of the AMAZING coaches!  When I started I could barely lift the 15kg bar above my head but with support, coaching and practice, the 15kg bar is just a warm-up  I never thought a gym could be as welcoming, friendly and fun as M Squared!  One of my favourite things about M Squared is the support and encouragement from other members whether it be a “Come On” or “Up” when you are struggling to stand up a squat or cheering you on at the end of the WOD when they have already finished!  No one goes home until the last person has finished their workout!

M – What is your biggest achievement so far in CrossFit and what are you most proud of?

H – As a relative newbie, I’m lucky enough to hit PB’s fairly regularly as I am still only learning but my 65kg back squat and 75kg deadlift is definitely up there!
