Member Of The Month – Danielle Bickerton
Congratulations to Danni for being our April (we’re a bit behind 🤦♀️) member of the month.
Danni has always been on our minds for MOTM and crops up every time. So it was an easy choice for MOTM this time.
Danni is one of the nicest, kindest and most supportive people you will ever meet. if you make one friend when you come to M Squared (you will make loads but for dramatic effect) Danni will be the one who will make you feel welcome and take you under her wing and in no time you will be going for food and nights out together. That’s just how easy going, likeable and chilled she is.
As well as being mega coachable, moving like a dream and having a great snatch (🏋️♀️) Danni is the one who will be there to support the crew at every opportunity. I mean I don’t think she has missed one competition as a supporter or one social event or day trip. She goes wherever the squad goes. You will look up and see her (absolutely flawless) gorgeous face looking back at you. That’s priceless to see as a coach and owner of the gym. Danni only knew a couple of people before she joined (the Sav siblings used to go to the same school and Danni’s mum used to cut all our hair) but she has got right involved from day one despite being quiet and shy when she first came in. It’s fair to say she is not that same quiet shy girl and has a brilliant dry sense of humour. We absolutely love having her around.
Anyway let’s here from the superstar.
M – How long have you been doing CrossFit?
D – I have been doing CrossFit for nearly 2 years now. I was told by a friend to go and see what it is all about and I have never looked back! I had never been to a CrossFit box before and I am not gonna lie, I felt scared as I had been told it’s nothing like a normal gym, and they were right, it’s so much more than a gym, it’s a family and I wouldn’t have it any other way! I loved how the coaches coached and how they helped you through everything and how even people who had never met me before came and helped me. It was just the boost I needed to know that this was the place for me! I was also lucky enough to have known yourself as the owner that made my first time at Msquared not so daunting!
I wanted to be the best that I could be for myself and now I feel I am happy with where I am. The friends I have made are lifetime friends and they have made a massive difference in my life in and outside of the gym and I never would have got that from a normal gym where people don’t talk to you and just have their head phones in! I love a good dance during the WOD to spice girls! I mean who doesn’t? I am always smiling when I walk in the door even if it’s been a bad day at work or just having an off day. M Squared is my happy place!
M – What class time do you normally attend and why does that work for you?
D – I am a 7 o’clock crew and I love it. I also do Saturday and Sunday. I work from 7.30am till 6pm 4/5 days a week and coming to the gym after work is the best way to end the day!
Meeting new people is amazing, so on the weekends it’s great seeing new faces and I always try and make people feel as welcome as I did on my first time at the box! I feel I get to see a lot of the faces as I turn up early and get to see the 6 o’clock class and see people on the swap over. I feel like I can be quite shy at times but if you asked anyone in the gym they would probably say a lot different. I am comfortable in the gym and what you see is what you get! I know I have resting bitch face but I can’t help it people!
M – What is your why? Why do you put yourself through it each day? Do you have goals you want to achieve?
D – I had to think about this one for a while, and I think why I put myself through the pain and the brutal work outs is because I love what I do and I love what I get out of it! I feel like I am doing something for me and that can only come from how much work I put in to it! I have got to the point now that I hate missing the gym and taking rest days! Like what are rest days?! I don’t like them they are so boring! I think because I was so sporty when I was younger and I swam from an early age and stoped when I was 18, I missed that drive in my life to do something for me and what I have found at M Squared is that drive for me again and I am so happy in my own skin now, more than I have been for a long time.
When I stared CrossFit and all the movements I had to learn, the only one I really couldn’t get my head around was snatch and it played on my mind all the time. When it was in a WOD I always used to just think “I don’t like that move I can’t do it” and once that’s in your head it’s hard to get out. So when I found out about the weightlifting class, which helps with technique, I thought why not let’s see how this can help me! I have to say snatch is one of my favourite movements and I look forward to it being in WODs now! I had a few goals a while back which were toes to bar and kipping pull ups and now I have them so I am buzzing about that! My goal at the moment would be to get my double unders as I want to be able to them before I can go in to RX in comps. Also a 45kg snatch. I would be happy with that right now!
M – What advice would you give people who are unsure whether to try M Squared or not?
D – I can not tell you how much CrossFit has changed my life! I have met amazing people from all different back grounds and we come together and work out and are there for each other with so much support you wouldn’t believe! CrossFit is a way of living and you have to try it before you decide whether or not it’s for you, but I bet I could tell you 99% of the time you come to CrossFit you never look back! Doesn’t matter how fit you are or abilities you have, everyone is welcome and we are all there for each and everyone wants the best for you!
Trying new things can be scary but take that step and become park of the CrossFit M Squared family!
M -What is your biggest achievement so far in CrossFit and what are you most proud of?
D – My biggest achievement was entering the first competition. I was so scared and didn’t know what to expect. I thought I would have so much pressure on me but it was the total opposite. I felt so relaxed and just tried my best and that’s all anyone can ask of them selves. If you have tried to the best of your ability then you can’t give anymore and at the end of the day as Em always says “it’s just adult P.E” so have fun, smile, laugh and dance to get on the Instagram posts!
M Squared has changed my life in the biggest way possible and the people in that box are a massive part of that. I have made some amazing friendships. I know what I am capable of now and I know I have a hell of a lot of people behind me to support me!
