Member Of The Month – December 2022

Our December MOTM award goes to the moustache man David Mollard!

David joined us just under a year ago, having done CrossFit before but not for long, and since then we have watched him go from strength to strength in all things CrossFit! Recently he has been absolutely smashing his gymnastics, getting butterflies consistently and now butterfly chest to bars. He went from not having any BMU to linking 3 within a week, he is also getting stronger and stronger, he moves a barbell really nicely, and his lifts are increasing in weight. This is all down to his consistency. He shows up, listens to the coaches, puts the work in, strips things back to work technique properly, and pushes himself the right amount. Alongside normal classes he also attends the weightlifting class, and does extra PTs to work on his skills. He is always a pleasure to have in the classes, coachable, friendly to others, supportive and an all round good guy. So we believe he is deserving of this award. Have a read to find out more about his CrossFit journey.

M – How long have you been doing CrossFit?

DM – I started CrossFit in May/June of 2021 at a local box and moved to M Squared in February 2022.

M – What class time do you usually attend and why does that work for you?

DM – I regularly train at the 12 class during the week as it fits in well around work but also attend the odd evening sessions if cant make them.

M – What is your why? Why do you put yourself through it each day? Do you have goals you want to achieve?

DM – I enjoy pushing myself and learning new movements which is why CrossFit is perfect as there are aways some new skills or movements you can learn or improve at whether it is gymnastics, weightlifting or efficiency on bodyweight movements.  I enjoy competing and my goal would be to be able to enter an RX competition with the confidence that I could perform every movement that showed up in the workouts and perform them well.

M – What advice would you give anyone wanting to start CrossFit but is either unsure or nervous? We get people all the time saying they need to get fit first or they could never do what we do? Any advice for those people?

DM – Although it may look intimidating initially, I’ve found Crossfit to be one of the most welcoming and supportive sports out there where the comradery is unmatched.  The best thing to do is to find a local box with a good reputation and jump into it with both feet with the mindset of wanting to learn and you will soon see there are people of all abilities and level training and working together.

M – What is your biggest achievement so far in CrossFit and what are you most proud of?

DM – I have always found gymnastic movements difficult and always used to just use strength rather than technique so becoming more efficient in these movements over the past few months and with managing to finally achieve muscle ups have been my biggest achievement so far.

M – Well done David, and thanks for the blog! Look forward to seeing what you achieve this year!
