Member Of The Month – February 2026
Our February MOTM goes to THE barlow of Barlows… Ed!
And it’s about time…. 😉 Ed has been a member at M Squared for many years. Always just comes in, gets on with it, smashes a workout and either rushes off for drinks somewhere or more recently, to get home to his 3 children! He is known for having a mega engine, dabbling in marathons here and there, always trying to “improve his strength” by going for a 1 rep max regardless of what the strength actually is, being a reliable attendee of all the socials, and maybe sometimes getting a little too merry 😉 In all seriousness, Ed is mega, always a pleasure to have in class, chatty and friendly with everyone, and recently we are even more proud of him for managing to still fit training in around working full time and raising 3 small children, two of which are twin boys!

MÂ – How long have you been doing CrossFit?
EB – Since joining M Squared so best guess 7/8 years.

M– What class time do you usually attend and why does that work for you?
EBÂ – I’m a little all over, midday or earlier if I’m out for drinks but generally, I’m on the 5pm. Hyrox 7am & a Sunday slog are also very enjoyable classes I attend as much as possible.
M– What is your why? Why do you put yourself through it each day? Do you have goals you want to achieve?
EB – Train to treat & just an hour to escape work. No huge goals or ambitions, but I like a little event every now & again to keep me focused. However, I’d be delighted with a 100kg squat clean once in my lifetime.
M– What advice would you give anyone wanting to start CrossFit but is either unsure or nervous? We get people all the time saying they need to get fit first or they could never do what we do? Any advice for those people?
EBÂ – I’d say not to worry about others & just try to be the best version of yourself.

M What is your biggest achievement so far in CrossFit and what are you most proud of?
EB – Double unders was a massive frustration for years but I got there in the end, and I guess slow & steady progress with strength, endurance, etc. without doing any extras.

M – Smashing it Ed. We love having you part of Team M Squared!
