Lockdown Member Of The Month – May 2020
Our May Lockdown Member of the Month award goes to the one and only SCOUSE! Aka full name James Wilcox. This guy is a special kind of person and he fully deserves this award.
During lockdown not only has Scouse been doing his job as carer in a care home, which we know has been really really tough and we take our hats off to him, but he also volunteered to help out with the social side of the M Squared calendar and offered to do fortnightly cooking sessions on zoom. We have learned how to cook a variety of dishes under his guidance and he is the most patient teacher. He has also attended the quizzes and has been offering his support to others during lockdown whether it be food delivery or just a friendly ear/shoulder. Outside of lockdown he is always getting involved in all the competitions, helping out, supporting people and just generally being an all round awesome human. Everyone who meets Scouse can instantly tell he has a heart of gold and he would do anything to help people. So let’s learn a little bit more about him with a few questions…
M – How long have you been doing CrossFit?
SC – I started CrossFit 4 years ago, but didn’t truly appreciate it until I found MSQD two and a half years ago.
M – Have you managed to get on many zoom classes during lockdown / are you following any of the programmes we are sending out? If so how is it going?
SC – I only managed to get on a few zoom classes due to my 12 hour shift patterns, however I have done a lot of cook-alongs with Scouse and the MSQD quiz which I have enjoyed so much.
M – Tell us something positive you have learned, gained or achieved during your lockdown training so far?
SC – This lockdown has been hard on everyone, I myself have found it very challenging working in social care with the elderly…
M – What is your why? Why do you put yourself through it each day? Do you have goals you want to achieve?
SC – My WHY is to be a better person in all walks of life, to get fit and to treat people with dignity, respect and love no matter who they are… or where they come from. The MSQD community embodies this. That is why I will always be a member of this team!!
M – What advice would you give anyone wanting to start CrossFit but is either unsure or nervous? We get people all the time saying they need to get fit first or they could never do what we do? Any advice for those people?
SC – Anyone in two minds about starting CrossFit you should know it has completely changed my life. CrossFit is for all levels of fitness it’s for everyone even my mum has even thrown a bit of tin around in the gym
M – What is your biggest achievement so far in Crossfit and what are you most proud of?
SC – One of the things I’m most proud of is the support I was given this last year after I fractured my back and spent 12 weeks in bed. You all encouraged me to get back to the gym and get training again which I love you for.
M – What is the thing you are most looking forward to when the gym re-opens
SC – Seeing everyone. I get on with everyone in our community, we are so lucky to have so many amazing people, however I need to mention a few people here as there are a few of you who have always been there for me when I needed you the most.
