a whole year passed already
In honour of our 1 year anniversary I thought we could take a look at everything that has happened at MSQD over the last 12 months. From staying up till all hours to get it ready for open day to where we are now. Its gone in the blink of an eye so really nice to look back at how far we have come.
Days before Open Day
We didn’t think we were going to get everything ready for the Open Day, which was Aprils Fool’s Day. Most people did think it was an Aprils fool as we were no where near ready the day before….but the team and I worked till 5am getting it ready for the Open Day Competition where 100+ people would walk through the doors. As we left at 5am we were just putting the last bit of matting down as we left the gym…..after a well earned beer of course.
Of course we finished it just in time. When I say I’m going to do something it, it will happen….with a little help from my friends and family of course.
So what was M Squared like before we transformed it? Let’s just say you needed a LOT of vision and luckily thats what I had. Many people said it would never work and even asked if I had a “Get out clause” in my lease ha! Here are some before and after pics:
It would never happened though without Big T, Tony Montana (My Dad) which is where M Squared actually comes from. Montana and Memphis (my dog) are M Squared! My dad and brother took time out of their jobs (both builders) to help me get this looking something close to a gym….but with Sav style 😉
They both were incredible. While they did all the hard graft I was busy doing everything else. Setting up the business, designing logos, themes, legalities, affiliating, systems and procedures being put in place, designing apparel, sorting accounts, getting equipment, programming, training coaches, getting everything you could possibly think of sorted. So much to do…but I was loving it. Hard work on your own and with a full time coming job at another gym, but its something I was so happy to do.
It all started with a logo. I knew what I wanted I just couldn’t design it on a computer in the correct format (I’m learning that side now so I can, and have since, done my own logos.) A logo and a mood board. From then I knew I had a strong brand and I would stay in that theme throughout everything.
Anyway I’m straying….so unlike me when writing a blog ;-)00
April 2017 – Open Day Competition
We did it! 🙂 Awesome day and me and big T were so proud watching our gym be filled with people all having a blast. So grateful for the support we had off other gyms too.
First of many “Murph’s” CrossFit Hero Wod.
M Squared Clothing Range was released. We have since added unisex baseball tops, Hoodies and bobble hats. Also a range for our CrossFit Kids.
Team “It’s a knockout” trip. so much fun. Regularly play and learn new sports….were on it! 😉
First Rainhill trip out with the M Squared crew supporting Abby, Lara, Rick and Sophia. The squad looking sharp in their new kit too.
We also had the pleasure of hosting a session for the CrossFit XIXI Focus group. These are a group of young people with some kind of disability….but don’t be fooled, these guys are awesome and great fun. Hope to work with them again soon. Remember its able NOT disabled.
We went with a few of our girls to the Leyland Ladies Barbell Competition in Teams of 3. These ladies made me super proud. We have some of the strongest girls I know of here. 🙂 Especially when Lauren drops 70kg on her legs mid complex then carries on the rest of the day with what looked like 2 smashed up legs with eggs on!
I hosted my first kids CrossFit party and it was for my gorgeous nephew Harley. Made me so happy he wanted a CrossFit party after doing CrossFit Kids for a while.
Lots happened in September.
We started our “Member of the Month” Easy for the coaches as Andy Ford stood out as most improved physically and also in confidence. 🙂 The MOTM also gets to programme their own WOD that we all do on a Saturday that month.
We had our “6 Month Anniversary tiki party” where we transformed the gym into a TIKI haven. Everyone came dressed up and we had a wicked time. Was nice to see everyone out of Gym Kit 😉
We hosted an event for KITBOX who invited CrossFitters, bloggers and social media influencers for a day out at Total Ninja and then to M Squared for a WOD. So nice to meet new people and catch up with old friends.
Holly was our next MOTM. New to CrossFit and M Squared but made a big impact and instantly was loved by us all 🙂
Training holiday to Mallorca. This was an epic trio and looking to do the same again this year but with more of the crew 🙂
Another trip to Rainhill. This time to watch Edd and Sonjia compete as a twosome and Claire and Neil compete individually. So good to watch. They all smashed it!
CrossFit Kids Halloween session.
Klare was our November MOTM. This was very much deserved……and also she wouldn’t stop asking for it 😉 Mega turn out to be put through our paces from the original Pocket Rocket.
We went to support our teams in the Form Leeds Competition all rocking our new “Be Your Own Hero” Hoodies.
Another KITBOX event with some more cool people.
Luke was our December MOTM and programmed a great WOD.
We had our first Christmas Day out where we went to the Bear Grylls assault course and Oxygen Free jumping centre. Was so much fun. After that we all went for dinner at the Botanist. We were so busy having fun we only managed to get this one picture. Plus…our first Christmas and Santa came to M Squared! 🙂
Our first Christmas Eve WOD. Closely followed by our J-Sav NYE WOD! Why not start the year with 365 burpees! 😉
Graeme was our first MOTM of 2018! He programmed a great “Old School” circuit style workout…after all he has been in the fitness industry longer than CrossFit has been going.
We had our very first (of hopefully many) feMale:Same Sex Pairs Competition. Wow it was amazing! Couldn’t have asked for a better first competition. The atmosphere was electric, the people, athletes and volunteers, were awesome. Tunes were banging and WOD’s were going down. Cant wait for the next one in Summer. Lets see if we can beat it.
Another strong turnout at Rainfall for Andy “The Ginger Hobo” and our very own “Gorgeous George.” Makes me so so proud always having the strongest and loudest crowd at any competition. We are such a strong community and thats what its all about. 🙂
We introduced a new Sunday Mobility Class with Joycey. Getting our members “Swole and Flexy” on a Sunday funday!
The CrossFit Open WOD’s begin! All set for 18.1 and the final 18.5 was awesome followed by beer and pizza afterwards.
Lisa is our March MOTM. Couldn’t ask for a better ray of sunshine to come to the gym everyday and light it up! Her WOD was disgusting though ha!
We started a new mum and Baby Class. So happy to be bringing new mums back to fitness and giving them back an hour to themselves while we mind the babies 🙂
We teamed up with “Warrior Women Worldwide” to help them host their Warrior Tri Event at M Squared. HIIT, CrossFit and Yoga all under one roof.
We also introduced a Monthly Handstand Workshop with Adrian. Brilliant session focusing on technique and positions.
So thats a year in pictures. Like I said…crazy where thew time has gone.
We already have so much more to come:
CrossFit “Be Your Own Bodyguard” Course
More Rainhills to support the teams
1 Year Anniversary in house competition and night out.
